Road to Recovery

After hundreds—if not thousands of hours of internet searches, book reading, blogs, letters, faxes, forums, phone calls, and e-mails, slowly everything started to make sense.  The more I read about metal poisoning and autism, the more everything started to fall into place.  It was the eeriest feeling I've ever had in my life.  Symptoms lined up with mercury poisoning…  Ethan’s vaccine lot contained thimerosol…  Specific foods changes Ethan’s mood…  We’ve met children who used to be like Ethan, whom after treatments have had their diagnoses removed…  After speaking with doctors across the globe, celebrities, and authors—we’ve learned we’re not alone, and our research is right on.  And there is an Ethan in that little body that will come out if we help it.

I knew the road ahead of us was going to be long and tedious, but my son and his future were at the end of it and I didn’t even think twice about running down it! The faster I got to the end of that long and lonely road, the faster I would see Ethan.

We’ve met with some great doctors, and have seen great results with Dr. Brown, in treating his medical conditions that are causing his autistic behavior, night terrors, etc.  Specifically, Dr. Brown and the nurses at the ARCH Medical Center have been a gift from God to our family.  They've given us hope, and even better, we’ve seen results.

Among other treatments, Ethan has responded miraculously to their recommendation of hyperbaric oxygen therapy.  He started potty-training on his own after 14 treatments, started saying about 6 words, his screaming lessened and he was sleeping through the night, something he had never done before!

But as ecstatic as we were, we continued on with the treatments as long as we could before realizing that it just wasn't going to be possible to afford any more.  Unfortunately, we didn't have the money to fund any more treatments and Ethan slipped back into autism faster than he came out.

That’s where the benefit comes in.  We are helping Ethan get back on the road to recovery he was once on, and raising awareness of the fastest-growing developmental disorder in the U.S.  We are hoping to fund Ethan's treatments and have the chance to rescue him from the dark and scary world of autism--and someday, be able to meet who our son really is.  At the same time, a portion of the proceeds will go to Autism Speaks, helping to improve awareness, and fund research into treatments and a cure for autism.

I pray everyday that soon, Ethan will say, "I love you, Mom".
